William Mason Reserve, Mount Druitt
Client:Â Blacktown City Council
Location: Meacher St, Mount Druitt NSW 2770
Budget: $200,000-$240,000
Project Outline
CRS was appointed the task of designing and constructing a brand new playground at William Mason Reserve, with the aim to encourage more social integration amongst the local community.Â
Inclusivity was an important motivator for the new space, with this in mind, CRS designed an accessible area to welcome children of all ages and abilities. The open-plan surface is a combination of concrete paths, wetpour rubber and playground mulch. The rubber floorings branch off the surrounding concrete path, making it easier for prams and wheelchairs to access play equipment. A wheelchair-accessible spinning carousel and 2 x inground trampolines invite less-mobile friends to join in and have a great time.
At ground level, children can practice their balancing and agility skills on stepping discs, a balancing beam and several sandstone blocks. In the far corners of the play area, a double-bay swing has a Strap seat, Toddler seat and Cub seat. The Cub seat allows carers to hop on and get in on the action. In the opposite corner, a 3.5m Mega Swing with a Nest seat temps everyone that sees it.
The main attraction is a stunning KliX TOWERplay fort. The vibrantly coloured structure not only looks great but it’s also riddled with climbing activities and multiple slides.
Project Special Features
A certified soft-fall rubber system was installed to help to reduce fall injuries. On the outskirts, sandstone retaining walls provide children (and carers) a place to rest as well as support a large garden bed for trees and plants to grow.
