Project Outline

River Road Reserve has been transformed through another successful collaboration between Shoalhaven City Council and CRS Playspaces, delivering a vibrant, modern play space designed to inspire inclusive and imaginative play along the riverside.

Outdated equipment has been replaced with next-generation inclusive structures, bringing liveliness to the reserve. The centrepiece of the upgrade is a custom-designed KliX pirate themed tower, complete with ladder and stair access and a thrilling twisty tube slide descending the fort. Thoughtful details such as a telescope, themed symbols and ground-level interactive elements encourage imaginative roleplay while ensuring accessible play opportunities for less adventurous users.

Complementing the pirate theme is a pelican rocker, designed with easy-grip handholds so even the smallest hands can join in. The playground also features CRS’s new bongo design, offering excellent wheelchair accessibility and sensory engagement. Paired with this are voice tubes, providing another inclusive and collaborative play experience that encourages communication and shared play.

Positioned at the riverside edge of the playground is an essential double bay swing set, featuring both a nest swing and a toddler seat, perfect for relaxed play while taking in the natural surroundings. A new rope play structure further enhances the space, promoting tactile exploration and physical strength building through its open layout, which encourages multiple users to play together.

Completing the upgrade is a nature play trail, offering grounded, cognitively engaging play that connects guests with their environment.

The revitalised River Road Reserve playground now caters to a wide variety of play experiences, seamlessly harmonising physical, sensory, social and imaginative play within one contemporary and inclusive play space.
